ASK-Solutions publishes articles to share practical knowledge, document our projects, and add context to topics that affect privacy, repair, and digital freedom. Some pieces are written because participants or clients asked us the same question more than once. Others exist because we believe certain developments deserve explanation beyond the headline.
To make browsing easier, we publish our work in three categories:
Articles about external developments in technology, policy, repair, and digital rights β with our context and practical implications. This includes opinion pieces and explainers that help communities and organizations make informed choices.
Updates from ASK-Solutions and our initiatives. This includes service notices, availability updates, workshop news, and other time-related messages.
Project write-ups and technical documentation. Here we share build logs, experiments, and the kind of detailed notes that help others learn, replicate, repair, and improve.
Below youβll find our most recently published articles. New pieces appear here as they are added, ranging from short updates to longer technical write-ups and project notes.
As a foundation we have been active in Haarlem-Noord for many years: online with our services and projects, and visibly in the neighbourhood through our community workshop The Owl's Nest.
Starting in 2026, Google will require every Android developer to verify their identity and register through the Android Developer Console β even if they never publish apps on the Play Store. This move threatens to fundamentally change sideloading, F-Droid, and third-party APK installation, making Android look more like iOS than ever before.
Holiday greetings from ASK-Solutions for 2024, reflecting on a challenging year and why privacy, freedom, ownership and Right to Repair matter more than ever.
We ordered the semi-assembled version of the Prusa XL. When pre-ordering, we were disappointed that there was no kit version, but very happy when the printer arrived. We very much like building at least one printer ourselves; weβre not only tinkerers, but by building the printer from its components, you get a really good grasp on how the printer functions, how to troubleshoot it and how to repair or improve it.
Project log: our Original Prusa XL finally arrived after a long pre-order. Why we waited, why open source mattered, and what to expect from the Nextruder load cell system.
